Come join us for our first Pack meeting and see what Scouting is all about.
We will meet at Lowell Field (190 Grove St Waltham) for an afternoon of pumpkin painting. Scouts will also have their change to toss some pumpkins and apples with our mini trebuchet.
We played “turkey in a bag”, handed out achievements, and met our newest Scouts!
For the Operation Gratitude project, we made greeting cards for first responders, veterans, new recruits, and troops deployed overseas, as a way to say thanks.
Where and when will we meet up at PumpkinFest?
PumpkinFest is at the New England Base Camp in Milton, MA. The event is on October 19, 2019 from 10am to 4pm. It is an all day event, so feel free to come any time! Parking for the event is only in the Dunkin parking lot at 130 Royall St, Canton, MA. If you are planning to camp, you can move your car back to the site after 4pm. Please let us know when you plan to arrive! The pack will be meeting at the Pack 250 cabin.
When will it end the next morning?
We usually plan for a light breakfast and then leave around 10 or 11. You are welcome to leave earlier if necessary.
Do we need to wear uniforms?
Yes. Either class A or pack T-shirt is recommended.
Do we need to bring cooking equipment?
The pack will bring the necessary equipment for our planned meals.
We want to sleep in the cabin!
We have a reserved cabin on site.
We want to sleep in a tent!
You can borrow a pack tent – please let us know.
What other equipment do we need to bring?
Check out the Spring-Fall Packing List for a packing checklist for our camping activities.
Popcorn sales have begun! These sales are a very important fundraiser for the pack and scouting. That’s why children earn 25% of their sales in Scout Bucks. You can use Scout Bucks for trips, gear, uniforms, and pack fees.
We are bringing back the POPCORN PRIZE Table for those who sell $150 or more in Popcorn.
There are only a few weeks left to sell – all orders and monies need to be to Nicole by October 23rd. You can ask Nicole for popcorn and go door to door or run your own show and sell at a church, office space, fair, etc. If you’re interested in setting up a market show and sell, or just need some help please contact Nicole.
You can also set up an online profile and sell to friends and family. New this year, online shipping is free! Use https://www.trails-end.com/registration to get started!
The Pack 250 Bear Den has a lot of activities and outings planned for the coming year, from camp-outs to City Hall. Here’s what you need to know…
Den Meetings: Our first Bear Den meeting will be Sunday, October 6th, at 3pm at the Bright School. We’ll be talking about the upcoming camp-out and Pumpkinfest (October 19th), and practice putting up tents. After that, we’ll have meetings on 11/10 and 12/8, then the first Sunday of the month as we move into 2020. On 11/10, Scouts will be earning their Whittling Chip and learning to use pocketknives safely!
Pack Meetings: The next Pack Meeting is our camp-out at Base Camp on Saturday October 19th! Scouts can attend Pumpkinfest, the campout, or both – register at https://scoutspirit.doubleknot.com/event/pumpkin-fest-2019/2535797 for Pumpkinfest and at https://squareup.com/store/bsa-pack-250/item/pack-overnight for the camp-out!
Outings: We’ve got a lot planned this year! Signups for the Ecotarium Overnight (January 11th) are already available at https://squareup.com/store/bsa-pack-250, and we’re planning more field trips and excursions. Save the date for the May camp-out (May 16th), and possibly a tour of City Hall the evening of Feb. 10th!
Popcorn Sales: You should have received a Trail’s End popcorn fundraiser sheet in the mail from Pack 250 and Scouts can earn a Popcorn patch and a chance at the prize table by selling popcorn to friends and family. We’re doing individual sales this year instead of group sales!
Registering / Scoutbook: Have you registered at my.scouting.org and at pack250.com/join? You can pay dues at our Square site, https://squareup.com/store/bsa-pack-250. Please update your Scoutbook profile – especially with emails and phone numbers! – so that we can keep in touch with families.
Our first pack meeting of the school year kicked off with constructing and testing air cannons in Prospect Hill Park. Our cub scouts helped assemble the cannons out of plastic piping, pumped them full of air with a bicycle pump, and blasted the potatoes over the road with a twist of a handle. Most of the spud projectiles were never to be seen again!
For more information about Pack 250 and how you could be exercising your math and science skills like this, check out our page on How To Join!
The Pack Committee has been busy this summer and has put together a great Pack calendar full of activities for all to enjoy!
Our first two Pack meetings will not be held at the school so please pay attention to the locations below. Also, this year we are changing how we run our Popcorn Fundraiser. Each Scout will earn a portion of the funds raised that can be used to pay for activities or dues. More details are in this fundraising section of this letter.
New Scouts should follow the instructions on our joining page at https://pack250.com/join.
Returning Scouts, you can pay your annual membership fee at the pack square store: https://squareup.com/store/bsa-pack-250
Sunday, September 15 1pm-3pm: Our first Pack meeting of the year will be held at the summit of Prospect Hill Park. Scouts will be applying some math and science to build and test air cannons to launch marshmallows and potatoes.
Saturday, September 14, 12pm-4pm: We will be participating in Waltham Day and hosting our annual fishing derby and recruiting drive on the Waltham Common. All scouts are encouraged to bring friends or neighbors that may be interested in joining the Pack. In addition to the fishing derby, Scouts can also build and launch stomp rockets.
Sunday, September 22, 10am: Our Pack and several other Scout units will be marching in the Waltham 135th Anniversary parade. We are meeting at 10AM at the 75 Linden Street parking lot near the Westbound lane of Main Street. The parade begins at 11AM at the corner of Main and Linden Street and will end at Moody and Orange Street. At the end of the parade, the pack will line up on the Moody Street sidewalk for pickup by parents. After the parade, there is a block party at Orange Street with many family-friendly activities.
Saturday, October 19th: The October Pack activity will be to attend Pumpkinfest at New England Base Camp in Milton. The pack will also be camping out that night at New England Base Camp.
This year we have two fundraisers planned to raise money for the Pack and Scouts. The money we raise is used to pay for program supplies and to subsidize the cost of activities.
Popcorn sales are for Boy Scouts what cookies are to Girl Scouts. This year we have decided to give a direct incentive to Scouts and Families to sell Popcorn. Each Scout will earn 25% of the sales that can be used to pay for Pack membership dues, activity fees other the purchase of Scout related items.
You may pick up an order sheet that can be used to sell door to door to friends and families. The pack also has popcorn available for pickup that can be used to sell outside store locations or while doing door to door sales. If you would like to pick up popcorn to sell, please contact Nicole (nicolerhiggins@gmail.com).
Saturday, April 25th: The pack will be joining up with our sister Boy Scout Troop to sell food at the Gore Estate this Spring. Mark your calendars!
We are looking forward to a wonderful year watching the boys and girls grow in Scouting. If you have any questions, please email or call your Den Leaders or a member of the Pack Committee. We are very open to constructive suggestions and comments. Anyone interested in volunteering please call or email one of us.
